Forest Fires in Shimla, Solan, Dagshai
Photography of Forest Fires in the Himalayas
Photos by Anoop Negi – Live from the Jump Seat
The months of May and June are the peak of summer in India. The Himalayas provide a weekend or more of succour and relief from the heat and dust of the plains.
This summer even the Himalayas are burning hot. Red hot. Flash fires are sprouting everywhere. Specially the forests in the lower reaches where pine trees are in abundance.
This is a collection of photos taken in the last 7 days.
Summers in India are a veritable treat
For the senses.
The skin tingles with perspiration.
The nose bristles with irritation
The dust swirls around everywhere.
The eyes smart and tear with ease
The sheer heat hits you -
Like an apocalyptic hammer.
The mouth dry, dusty and buggered
The crotch always on fire.
Sweaty, clammy and totally dirty
Living life in India is never pretty
Not so in the summer anyway.
Head for the hills
Go, get some fresh air
Look I am not even mentioning about the itinerant power failures, stoppages of water supply, spiralling fuel costs, the dirty businessman and the dirtier politician.
Add all that up and it makes for a perfect recipe for a living hell on earth.
So you can let the melanosmoes / melanocytes do their work. Block the hot temperatures, the warm winds and the zero humidity. Or else do what the old colonial settlers from England and their lackey Maharajas did. Move to the hills every summer.

Terrifying, but terrific photos.
Thanks for liking the photos.
Hope no victims from the fire.
Not much attrition in terms of human beings and wild life.. The micro flora and fauna would have suffered surely
C’est terrifiant, une magnifique photo, j’adore !
